OIU Morning of Reflection

The Old Ignatians’ Union was officially established in 1897 and was known as the “St Ignatius’ College Ex-students Union”.
In this inaugural year the Constitution stated –

The basic objectives of the Union are

1. To sustain and strengthen connection between members.
2. To further the interests of St Ignatius’ College
.

Today, more than one hundred years later, these two fundamentals remain the goals of the Old Ignatians’ Union.

The connection between members is promoted by various means and includes the Old Ignatians’ Sports Association which has Old Boys’ Teams playing basketball, cricket, rowing, rugby, touch football and water polo. Golf days and bowls are also organised.

Class reunions, country reunions, the Annual Dinner and barbecues at the College Gold Cup Regatta and home football games also provide great opportunities for social gatherings.

In addition, the Ignatian Magazine and this website provide written and visual connection between Old Boys.

The interests of the College are furthered by the Union by the funding of bursaries. Not only are the recipients of bursaries means tested and reviewed annually but also carry an implied debt of honour.

In addition the Union also organises the annual Careers Expo for students in years 10, 11 and 12 and is involved in community service at St Canice’s Kitchen, Elizabeth Bay several Sundays during the year.

If any Old Boy is interested in being involved in any of the above activities you are requested to contact the Honorary Secretary.
