Careers Expo
The OIU Careers Expo is to be held on Monday 12th May 2008.
The College considers this Careers Expo to be an integral part of each boy’s education at Riverview. A year’s planning by the OIU and our Careers Counsellor, Mrs Sandra Brackenbury, will bring together a large number of exhibitors and speakers at the school.
The Expo will provide all students in Years 10, 11 & 12 and their parents with valuable information about options for tertiary study and careers. It is also designed to assist Year 10 in their future subject selection for their HSC. All students in these years are expected to attend. The Expo is open to boys and girls from other schools who may wish to attend.
From 5.00 until 6.30pm p.m. in the Gartlan Sports Centre, there will be about 80 exhibitors comprising universities, TAFE Colleges, private colleges, The Defence Forces, Police Services and employer associations. Parents and students are encouraged to come and use this time to converse with the exhibitors about available courses, entry procedures, and required UAIs, alternative pathways into courses, application procedures for college accommodation and costs, scholarships etc. before the official welcome at 6.25 p.m.
At 6.30pm students and parents will move to allocated venues to the first of two Career Discussion Groups they may elect to attend. Please remember that this part of the Expo is as important as the Gartlan exhibition, as information will be presented by people with experience and hands-on knowledge of their specific career area. Each topic will be covered in two 55-minute sessions, by a group of speakers. At the end of each session there will be time for questions. Mrs Brackenbury will have their details should you need them if further contact is required.
