Cana in need

 Hello All
 
As you all know, Cana is run entirely by volunteers and I am constantly amazed at the generosity of all our volunteers in giving of their time and their care to keep the community operating in the way that it does.  I hope that, like me, you feel that you get at least at much out of your involvement with Cana as you give. 
 
We are at the moment experiencing a shortage of volunteers to stay in the house overnight.  Even though the house is usually fairly quiet at night, it is unfair to expect residents to deal with any issues that arise and we would ideally like to have someone to stay every night.  We are trying to recruit more people to do this and were wondering if any of you would like to consider it, or whether you might know anyone who would.  Can you please give it some thought and spread the word among your networks. 
 
Sometimes the overnight volunteers come and cook a meal to share with the residents in the house, but this is not necessary.  We often have a separate volunteer to do this.  Many of our volunteers need to leave early to go to work, so there is no need to stay around in the mornings if this doesn't work for you.  If it seems a bit daunting at first, think about bringing a friend to stay as well. 
 
As with most things around the house, I find staying overnight a really lovely thing to do.  The evenings in the house are often a time when the guys want to sit around and have a chat or have someone to watch TV with them, or maybe even play a game of cards.
 
We are planning to have a dinner at De Porres next Wednesday night, the 19th, to talk about this with anyone who might be interested.  Come and share a meal with us if you are interested, or if you just want to find out more.  We hope some of our current overnighters might also like to come and share their experiences.  Or, if you would just like to come and share a meal with other volunteers and the residents at the house, we would love to see you.  Please let us know if you can come for catering purposes.
